Personalized and Proficiency Based Learning Implementation Team (Homepage)

From the draft goals paper:

The Challenge
Students of the 21st Century come of age in an increasingly complex world in which each brings their own very diverse set of talents, interests, and needs. The old education models have run their course. The Personalized & Proficiency Based Learning team will focus on two large and intertwined ideas. One, it will explore and implement opportunities for the schools to move toward identifying clear learning goals for all students. Ultimately, instead of determining graduation readiness by a certain number of credits earned through course by course requirements, schools will assess preparedness for next steps in life through a set of Learning Expectations, or Proficiencies. And, as these proficiencies are defined, the door will open to the second priority for the PPBL team, exploring the world of new opportunities for students to develop unique, personalized pathways towards their high school diploma. This might range from one student substituting an independent learning opportunity in the place of one standard class, to another student creating a complete program of independent learning through community engagement. Opportunities will no longer be limited to the school day or to the semester; the increasingly critical commodity of time will be made more flexible with the adoption of new approaches to teaching and learning. Educators and students together will create a technology-rich environment, where learning loses its boundaries of time and place.

Mission
The Personalized & Proficiency Based Learning team’s mission is explore, define and implement clear learning goals for all students that can be achieved through unique, personalized pathways towards their high school diploma.
